Police Harassment of Kerry campaign in Miami

Here is a blog by a volunteer for Kerry in Miami, showing Harassment by police.

cop car that came up in front of Kerry headquarters this morning, lights blazing. left his lights blazing while he systematically ticketed every car he could in front of the place. This happens several times a day. Have you ever heard of the police acting this way? Of course not, not since the 60's anyway. They pull up, acting like someone's been murdered, and ticket everything they can and tell anyone on the street to go inside. And you thought corruption was dead

He has pics too. Here is the link

Wow, that's awful! (none / 0)

Makes me really appreciate living in a nice, liberal town where the police aren't anti-Kerry.  I'll not take it for granted anymore.

We have to get those people out of office!

Bogus? (none / 0)

This photo is suspicious. "several times a day" the cops come and the blogger gets a single shot? Also, he either cropped out or chose not to photograph the car's whole number or its license plate.

Listen, I'm on the same side this guy, Karl, is, but the photograph is COMPLETELY ineffective, and could even backfire.

Nothing New, Sadly (none / 0)

"Have you ever heard of the police acting this way? Of course not, not since the 60's anyway."

Well, "Of course not," if you rely on the corporate media for your news. In the real world, such harrassment tactics are SOP in dealing with protests against corporate globalization.  That and much, much more. Staging areas--media centers, organizing centers, even pupet-making centers have been subjected to surveillence, ticketing & towing of cars, illegal search & seizure and mass arrests. This has happened over and over again since Seattle in 1999. Heck, it happened at the RNC in Philadelphia in 2000.

I agree with you that its nothing new.  However I don't think thi is harrasment.  In Des Moines the cops were always ticketing and towing our cars.  It wasn't because they hated us but because we would consistently park in private lots or not pay meters.  I would bet that the office in florida is much like des moines, not enough parking, shitloads of people.

I Don't Know (none / 0)

I'm just going on what I read here. However, the way this has often worked, it starts out with overzealous enforcement of everything--jaywalking, parking violations, spitting on the sidewalk, etc. The point is to harrass, to throw people off their focus. Then it just keeps building.

I have no idea if this is what's happening in this case. I'm just saying, it's not like they stopped doing 30 years ago. They never stopped.
